Aging is inevitable, right? Barring an unforeseen illness or accident, one day our parents and Aunts and Uncles will reach an age and stage in life where someone else needs to help them more.
Oftentimes, a child or younger sibling becomes the one to take the lead on managing the affairs for a senior. Because much of this may be new information to take in, understanding the priorities can be difficult to navigate.
My wife and I have (or had) much older parents and have been actively involved in managing their affairs through their aging process. Some of this was the catalyst for us to pursue an insurance license and training, to help them understand Medicare. The amount of information that comes to seniors about this one issue alone is staggering. We helped our parents understand it and choose the best action plan for them, and now we do that as a regular course of business for many seniors.
Additionally, you may have to manage their finances, stop them from driving, manage their medications, choose their living arrangements, and prepare for their end of life measures. There’s so much more, many little things, that come with helping your parent or other senior adult live out their best life.
All of this spawned the idea of doing consulting for people that are dealing with aging relatives. Don’t try to dive into this alone, you will get EXTREMELY frustrated very quickly. There is so much that can accidentally veer you off course from where you want to go. Think a few wrecks is enough to take a seniors license and stop them from driving? No, think again! Think you can manage a bank account for a forgetful parent without their explicit permission? No, that can’t happen.
We’re happy to meet with you and help you plot a course through dealing with these situations. Our initial consult fee is $750, and we’ll talk as long as you need us to at that meeting. After that, should you want to set up regular meetings, we’ll be happy to do that for $200 per hour (or portion of). Got special circumstances where our fees are tough for you? Let’s talk, we’ll work something out. Helping seniors has become a passion for us and we want to help your journey be as painless as possible.
